Summer Camp and Camp Promotions! – Outdoor Program Blog

Although the weather for this weekend is forecasted for 23 degrees Summer Camp is right around the corner! 171 days to be exact! The Administration Team is busy at camp preparing for another season of fun, adventure, and achievement. We’ve got a great program planned with the Theme “Passport to Adventure” AND this year every Scout will receive a passport at check-in… if you collect all of the stamps you’ll receive a collector’s patch for your efforts!

In the summer of 2016 we instituted several major changes to both our Cub Scout and Boy Scout programs. This summer our goal is to focus on our program and reinforce the improvements we put in place last year. We’ve budgeted to make significant improvements to our program including the purchase of *NEW* Paddle Boards for the East Camp Waterfront and we’re investing in the Webelos Under the Stars campsite, Fort Courage. Additionally, we’ve added new program areas to the Cub Scout Adventure Camp AND Handicraft at the Boy Scout Camp will be receiving a technology update with new STEM Merit Badges.

In case you missed your Roundtable this month we began handing out Camp Promotion Thumb Drives! We’ve been doing some research and listening to your feedback. All indicators suggest that hosting a promotions team for a chaotic Pack meeting is not what our unit leaders want. We understand, you are busy! So we’re going to try something new this year. On the Thumb Drive we put everything you need to plan you visit to camp, promo videos, slideshows, forms, flyers, and links to websites to name a few. This way you can show that promo video and talk about camp whenever is best for your unit. Perhaps at the Pack’s Blue and Gold or playing in the background at a Pinewood Derby. For Boy Scouts, you can play the video and review the slideshow with your PLC or the beginning of a Troop Meeting. We want you to have the freedom to talk about camp at a time that suits your needs.

Now with all of that being said… If you still want an energetic group of Camp Staff and Arrowmen to show up and get your Scouts pumped up for another great year at camp, we would be more than happy to come out for a Unit Promotion!

I know this is a new approach to Camp Promotions but our goal is to get more information out to our Units! Should you need any additional information or support please refer to the Council Website or contact us directly!

Stay warm!
